One thing you need to know about me is that I love LOVE The Purge franchise …. Obsessed with the movies.
So when I saw that XOCHITL was writing a reimagining of this world I ran RAN to sign up for this ARC !
I’m so glad I did because I was HOOKED from page one!
Camila is feisty, independent and has her walls up. Doesn’t like to allow anyone in and dislikes physical touch. Emanuel is a flirt, will do anything to protect what’s his (even if they don’t know that they are lol). He loves to get under Camila’s skin and he’s obsessed with her.
This takes place on the annual Purge, a night where for 12 hours, crime including murder is legal … it’s a night of chaos… and Camila has always chosen to stay in, bunker down, but this year was different … as for Emanuel he is participating, but when he learns that Camila is - he knows he has to get to her.
As things happen they end up together and secrets that weren’t meant to come out do -and working together becomes life and death…. And those feelings that Camila thought she didn’t feel will be put to the test and Emanuel will do anything to protect his woman and make sure she knows how he feels. They just have to survive the night.
I will say I enjoyed the way Emanuel tested Camila to admit her feelings. He was going to make sure she did and he would make sure she knew how he’s always felt about her.
I enjoyed this story because if you watch any of the Purge movies, you know that it’s the government controlling the population and more so those with low income, without the means to find shelter and are forced to participate in a way… and XOCHITL made it where this story is relatable to what is happening now in our country.
It was a story that had me feeling like I was watching another Purge movie, I enjoyed it all! The chaotic-ness of the night, the love story, all of it.
Ya need to pick this up if you enjoy The Purge movies, and want a love story in the middle of this chaotic night.
