“You never answered the first part of the question,” he says, “why did you run?”

“Because if I didn’t, he would have made me kill his next victim.”

Did I know I needed a spicy Why Choose romance that was giving a messed up true crime episode?

Fully decked out with all the triggers your heart could desire?

No, I truly didn’t.

Did I absolutely devour this book in a couple of hours? Yes, I did and it was completely worth it!

This is book 1 in the completed 3 book series and let me just warn you before you start, the second you finish you will definitely need the next book!

I started and finished this entire series in barely 2 days. When I say the author's writing style devoured my whole damn psyche, I mean that.

“You were raised by a serial killer. You were just as much his victim as they were.”

This story follows Freya, who is the daughter of a serial killer. She’s been tormented both mentally and psychically since she was born but refuses to allow that to define who she is. The second the opportunity presented itself, she ran away from the only life she’s ever known and has truly never stopped running.

Years later she’s found herself graduating at the top of her class for the police academy, becoming a respected new detective, and living a complete lie with a shiny new identity. Her only goal now is finding the man that made her life complete hell, her father.

Enter in 4 delicious and overly possessive FBI agents. They all have been working on the Cross Cut Killers case for years, and they’ll do anything to catch him. Despite the possibility she might lose everything, Freya decides to trust the guys and be honest about who she is and what she knows in hopes of finally catching him.

I feel like I need to take a moment to really appreciate how hot it is for a man who works and abides by the law to happily commit crimes to protect you. Now times that hotness by 4. I was in fact salivating this whole book.

Eli - The broody cowboy who can't stand her, but still wants to protect her.

Jude - The sweetest lover boy with a brilliant brain. He isn’t afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve and express how he feels but he also sees everything.

Oz - The tech genius with a Scottish accent. He's quiet in public but deliciously filthy in the bedroom.

River - Your possessive and obsessive alpha. He is not only the leader of his team professionally but also in their personal lives. He's prepared to do anything to ensure that Freya is safe. Even if that means she might get hurt.

“You think we need pretty?” I ask. “You think after all we’ve seen, all we’ve done that we want soft, perfect, fragile?” I ease her shirt up a little bit. “We want tough. Strong. A fighter.”

Normally when I read a why choose I instantly have a favorite but I honestly loved all the guys. Did they have moments where they were being alpha idiots? Oh absolutely, especially in this book so be prepared for that but overall they are all drawn to her from the very beginning.

They saw the darkness in her and it called to them. They saw her scars and were in awe of everything she had overcome. Although they might have questioned her motives, they respected her trauma and wanted to help her find her self-worth and love herself again.

“Don’t get me wrong, Angel, you’re gorgeous. Stunning. But any scars you’ve got aren’t going to take away from that. They’ll only add to it. Because in our world, staying alive, is sexy as hell.”

Despite this book being deliciously filthy with a psychologically enticing plot, it does contain quite a bit of triggering content. Especially as the story progresses. Please be mindful and make sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in.

If the triggers don't bother you, then buckle up, babe. It's definitely a fun ride!
