I came across this book as the author was searching for ARC readers and I don’t think I have been this excited for an opportunity in a long time.
Iris is a man hating succubus who uses men for nothing more than to satisfy her hunger … and they can barely do that right. She is the epitome of a badass who takes no shit and she does it all in a mini skirt and heels.
Elliot is a cursed playboy werewolf that uses his charm and humor to get whatever he wants, women included. This charm has gotten him good places with Iris, so good that he is a regular on her…menu. Even though he’s always free for a feed, Iris usually wants to punch him because while his mouth is good for a lot of things, it’s great for a witty comeback or irritating joke.
When Iris finds herself in a mess she can’t handle on her own Elliot steps up in ways she wouldn’t have ever expected from him. She sees a side of him she had never seen before and their dynamic shifts, is she … CATCHING FEELINGS?! Unfortunately they missed something during their moment and it was something big and it’s becoming a problem.
As they work through this problem and all the obstacles that come with it they find a strange sense of comfort as two lonely people who happen to need each other. Maybe this thing could work? Or not? When Iris learns what Elliot’s curse entails she is concerned with where this thing is going to go and if she will come out whole in the end. Don’t forget that big problem…that definitely doesn’t get handled quickly and the twist is so evil. I love it now, though I wanted to eat my kindle when I initially read it.
This book was everything I needed to get me out of a terrible slump, Iris and Elliot were so relatable!! Aside from the fact that they are both monsters of course but I wish that was relatable too. We get conversations about self image, relationship dynamics, friendships, trauma, and fitting in which are handled so well. If you have read a review of mine, you know I love a good quote so LOCK IN because I have some good stuff to share.
“You miss me?” “No,” I say curtly. “That’s weird,” he says, leaning in to sniff me. “You definitely smell like you miss me.”
“Oh, come on, princess, don’t look at me like that.” “Like what?” I say, arms crossed. “Like you want to kill me. It only makes me want to fuck you.”
“You’re so gorgeous when you’re mad, and you expect me to just stand here? You’re asking for too much.”
“Is that a challenge?” he asks. My brows lift. “That depends,” I answer. “Are you prepared to die for her? Because I am.”
If those quotes don’t convince you I don’t know what else to tell you because what a man Elliot is…and that’s not even the half of his mouth in this book.
I think this was a very well balanced read from the tough topics and difficult dynamics to showing real friendship, witty banter, and young adult struggles. The last thing I have to say is … I cried y’all like BIG TEARS and I never do that. It got to the point that I was in R.A Moreaus DMs telling her I wanted to fight her, then that I loved her, and then that I wanted to fight her again. If this sounds up your alley please go pick it up and reach out to me with your thoughts because i’d love to discuss!
