Believe me when I tell you I was in a reading slump and this book right here pulled me out of the deepest depths of my slump!!
This is the second book in the Trauma Bonded Series and man did this book have me in a chokehold. This is an interconnected series so you have to read the first book and YOU should it was so good & just like this one, it had me locked in.
Dale and Mateo have been friends since high school and what they’ve felt for each other has almost been more! We meet Dale in the first book of this series and I loved her since. She’s the woman who has her walls up, not really letting anyone in, she’s playful and flirty and nothing gets to her but she’s so much more than that and we discover that in this book. We learn when it comes to her mother that she’s not enough, or enough of the type of woman she wants her to be. And as a Latina, I can relate to that and I did.
Mateo is the complete opposite of how Dale was raised. The man is wealth and power and he’s always felt more than friendship for her. He is there when she needed him for her best friend and he is there when she goes through something horrific. Helping her reclaim her own power, her control and by doing this, he is relinquishing that control he’s always has to maintain to be perfect and pristine.
When I tell you, seeing this woman get her power back had me unwell! Had me panting! Had me hot! Chugging water!
The way this man let her be in control, but also her letting him take control when she gave in - 10/10 recommend.
Can we talk about this found family created in this series? They’ve all come from different aspects of life, different traumas and yet they’ve created this family that are there for each other, that will unalive anyone who hurts one of them and truly family is what you make of it, not blood.
I can go on and on, but you really need to read this series. I will say I appreciate Landyn for letting Dale save herself as well. Because sometimes it’s easy to let someone save you, be coddled and let them fight your nightmares and demons, but if you don’t do them yourself - are you really moving forward? I love to see it! Love to read it.
This was another top read for me in 2025! I discovered Landyn Hill this year and honestly I’m so thankful. Her writing, her stories - they make me feel so whole, they make me remember why I loved reading dark romance in the first place.
“There’s no one else on this earth who could break me and heal me, the way Mateo does. So I let the reins on my life and heart go, and I give them to the one man who’s held them all along.”
