WARNING: Prior to reading, please be mindful of any triggers you may have. Scream Little Sister is a dark taboo romance that features themes of violence, child abuse, passive suicidal ideation, anxiety attacks, bullying, attempted sexual assault, body shaming, domestic violence, and more. McQuerry provides an extensive list in the novel and an in-depth guide on her website. Your mental health is always the priority.

Scream Little Sister is the second installment of the Little Sister series; personally, I’d suggest you read book one, but if you’re thinking, “I’m punk rock—I don’t follow orders,” you’ll be fine because the series consists of standalone stories.

However, I ask you to support this amazing author because book one was banned from Amazon for being too taboo, so I need everyone to go purchase book one, Cry Little Sister from McQuerry’s website…like now!

Okay! Now that the housekeeping is over and done with, let’s get down to the fun shit! Scream Little Sister follows the characters Madison and Ryder. They met as children when Madison’s father and Ryder’s mother married, but their relationship runs far deeper than some simple paperwork.

Since young, Madison craved Ryder’s attention; wanting him to love her, be around her and bond. Yet sadly, she was created to be a marionette of her father’s will, and was forced to play the role of popular girl, with the very people Ryder hates.

Ryder hated the facade that Madison was forced to play, hated her dad deeply—and despite his own desires for her, began to despise her. Having to take the brunt of disdain from Madison’s father, being bullied by “cool” kids that clung to her, and being ostracized for his very being took its toll—yet despite this, little Madison never knew, he always kept an eye on her from afar.

A game of reluctant cat and mouse commenced for years. Each of them pretended that the attraction wasn’t sat in their minds, Ryder left the clutches of corrupt society and Madison grew up and played her part while biding time. They played their roles and kept a painful distance until a strike of fate set the game on a course where fiery desire consumed the fabrics of their charade.

Y’all this dark taboo romance was so freaking good—McQuerry has a way of putting me in a chokehold, but lemme just say she did her big one with this one!

For me, taboo romances attract the eye with how it illustrates love’s merciless consumption. As the yearning festers and blooms underneath the skin, passion leaves you without sense or reason—then bam, you’re carnivorously embracing the bridled spirit of lust and love. As a chronic yearner, something about that passion just feeds my soul and this story gives just that.

Madison and Ryder grew from being each other’s alter to souls that kismet set course to meld as one. That fight against their desire was gallant, but leaves with a delicious carnal story that exemplifies raw emotion and love.

Madison’s character is driven by the thoughts of others yet throughout the story shifts into her power. I loved how the cam girl work was almost a personification of her true nature, and as the story plot unfolds, she begins to embrace her true colors. She finds herself in the chaos she ran from, and finds calm in Ryder’s storm-like presence.

Ryder, Ryder, Ryder—that’s my man. He was layers of darkness, pain, and comfort that pulls you in completely. The mental health representation in his character was so well written and felt very relatable at times. Aspects of his characters endears you, relates to you, and arouses all at once. He was once a character that bided himself on his work in the shadows, supporting his friends and suppressing his emotions. However, once he got his fire? Ryder was freaking untouchable!

This plot flows easily and grips your attention with the first scenes. Driven by both the character development and the story itself, the book takes you on a journey. As taboo in nature the story is, the tale of forbidden desires inevitably becomes a scene of redemption; a rescuing of two drowning souls.

In each other, they were both strong and vulnerable. Each was afforded a way to escape the expectations of a suppressive society and fall into the embrace of freedom—no matter how dark they had to get. It was a delicate balance of self- discovery, freedom, and delicious spice that makes your toes curl!

If you haven’t already, go ahead and read Scream Little Sister by Willow McQuerry. Give into the call of taboo desires, and enjoy this dark, delicious story!
